Stephen King isn't the only creator out there putting his original works on the Web. Straczynski will be posting a new novel online that you can read — free. The novel, called "Tribulations," will be on BookFace.com, which is a neat little site, though it gave my Mac a hard time. I'll have to try loading the site on my PC at a later date. But take a look at BookFace for the new novel next month; in the meantime, you can read several unproduced scripts from Straczynski's other series, "Crusade," written by himself and Fiona Avery, a former research editor of the program. There are also non-"Crusade" texts on the site, of course. Thanks to reader Bob Hodge for the heads-up.

The eight season of "The X-Files" is taking shape. As you may have already heard, Robert Patrick will be joining the show as FBI Agent Dana Scully's new partner. (Her previous partner, for those two or three of you who don't know, was Fox Mulder, who was finally abducted by aliens in the final episode of last season. David Duchovny, who portrayed Mulder for seven seasons and in one feature film, is contracted to appear in 11 episodes of the eighth season for a reported $20 million.) Patrick rose to genre fame as the evil Terminator who battled Linda Hamilton and Ahnod Schwarzenwhatever in "Terminator 2." Gillian Anderson, who portrays Scully, had been contracted through the end of the eighth season, but has now signed on for another year. I hope she's making the big money now; she deserves it.

For those of you in the Gotham area, the Sci-Fi Channel will be holding the Exposure: Future of Film Festival this weekend from Aug. 4-6. Spread across four theaters in midtown Manhattan, the three-day event will feature everything from the Sci-Fi movie "Invisible Man" to "Gospel According to Philip K. Dick." For more info, see www.exposurefest.com.

The final words...

"I didn't have fun this sixth season. It was pretty dreary and tedious for me....I don't have many memories of the sixth season that are positive; I'm not saying anything I haven't said to [executive producer] Brannon Braga. I've called him up and said to him flat out, 'I'm bored to tears.'"
—Robert Beltran, Commander Chakotay on "Star Trek: Voyager," in an interview on scifi.com
